How To Clean Das Keyboard

Cleaning My Faithful Das Keyboard

Seems like the place to ask. I have a daskeyboard and don't want to break anything :P Is there a proper way to remove the keys? I'm always worried about applying force as I don't want to break something on my keyboard

Also some of the keys I have the writing has become faded a bit, I can't tell if it's that or oil from my fingertips over the years. Any good way to clean them and make them look new?

I own a Das, and the keys came out pretty easily. All the small (1u and 2u, without stabs) should come off easily with hands. You can make a simple cap puller with a paper clip, or a solid core wire (which I did).

The only problem was the space - not because it was difficult, I was just afraid I might break the stabilizers. I pulled it slowly and making sure that both sides are coming out evenly.

Get a wire keycap puller, pull straight up, and wiggle a bit as you do it. Don't force it.

You won't get the legends back by cleaning them if they are faded. But if you want to know how to clean your keycaps, check the wiki. A bowl of warm (not hot, especially if the keycaps are ABS) water and some denture tabs does wonders.
